Enjoy wind ensemble music from the community Twin Ports Wind Orchestra (TPWO) and conductor Dr. Mark Whitlock in the winter concert, “A Concert of Sharing.” In this concert TPWO shares the program with another ensemble of volunteer musicians, the Medalist Concert Band, based in the Twin Cities area and conducted by Jerry Luckhardt. The concert also features the clarinetist Staff Sergeant Tyler Hseih from the “President’s Own” United States Marine Band.

David Maslanka, a composer of one of the pieces in the concert, shared that “for me, writing music, and working with people to perform music, are two points…of deep mindfulness.” We anticipate the concert will bring opportunities for the audience to be mindful and connect with each other, toe-tap (quickly) along with a march, relax with soaring jazz-influenced clarinet lines, picture a wedding procession from 174 years ago, and feel the energy of music driving comedy and drama in film.

TPWO repertoire includes features with clarinetist Staff Sergeant Tyler Hseih: American’s We – Henry Filmore Elsa’s Procession to The Cathedral – Richard Wagner "Victor's Tale" from the movie “The Terminal” – John Williams Three Preludes for Clarinet and Band – George Gershwin Give Us This Day – David Maslanka

The Medalist Concert Band opens the concert with: English Folksong Suite (three movements) | Ralph Vaughan Williams Be Thou My Vision | Travis Cross The Promise of Living | Aaron Copland (arr. K. Singleton) Lincolnshire Posy (Mvmts. 1, 2, 6) | Percy Aldridge Grainger
